Zaporizhzhia Survivor Relief Centre
🗓 August at the Zaporizhzhia Survivor Relief Centre was a month of active community engagement, cross-sectoral collaboration, training, and psychosocial support.
✔️ Throughout the month, the Center’s team created spaces for recovery and building psychological resilience, expanded access to information about available assistance, and strengthened collaboration with partners and specialists who work with people affected by war and violence.
✔️ In collaboration with the Zaporizhzhia branch of the regional employment center, the Center’s specialists conducted emotional relief sessions for internally displaced persons and community members. Participants discussed the impact of stress on their emotional well-being, learned to better recognize their own needs, identify resources, and utilize available methods of self-care.
✔️ In partnership with the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, art therapy sessions titled “The Tree of Inner Resilience,” “My Safe Place,” and “Drawing Mandalas with Coffee” were held. These creative activities helped participants explore their own resources, build a sense of inner strength, and find safe ways to recover emotionally.
✔️ Psychological workshops titled “Stress and Music Therapy” and “The Path to My Goal” were held directly at the Survivor Relief Centre. During the sessions, participants worked on managing emotional stress, tapping into their own resources, building motivation, and envisioning their next steps.
✔️ A separate focus was placed on supporting parents and building the capacity of adults who interact with children. The Center’s team conducted an emotional relief session for parents, and a child psychologist led a series of online meetings for parents and professionals who work with children. Participants learned more about the work of a child psychologist, the signs that a child may need help, and options for receiving psychological support.
✔️ An important component of the Center’s work remains building the capacity of frontline responders in the field of addressing conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV). The Center’s coordinator led an interactive lecture for National Police officers titled “CSV: Context, Identification Indicators, and Response.” During the session, the focus was on understanding the context of CSV, recognizing potential indicators, and the principles of a sensitive and appropriate response.
👍 These activities are not just one-off meetings. They are part of the Center’s systematic work aimed at ensuring that people in the community know where to get help, have access to psychological and psychosocial support, and that professionals from various sectors are better prepared to identify needs and respond appropriately.
We continue to work with our partners to ensure that support is accessible, professional, and tailored to each person’s needs.
