From Career Uncertainty to a Job in the Civil Service

Moving from a rural area to Uman was a major life challenge for Kateryna. Having lost her job, she didn’t know how to apply her professional experience in a city that was new to her. Previously, she had worked as an administrative assistant at a village council, but she wasn’t familiar with the opportunities in the urban job market and didn’t have a clear idea of what kind of job she could find.

After contacting the Uman branch of the Cherkasy Regional Employment Center, Kateryna underwent a labor market needs assessment using a specialized tool developed by the NGO “Association of Women Abmassadors of Ukraine.”

The questionnaire helped her reassess her professional experience and strengths in a new light. Her years of experience working with documents, her attention to detail, and her knowledge of official record-keeping procedures formed the basis for identifying the most promising career path. As a result, Kateryna clearly understood that she wanted to continue working in the field of public administration.

Based on the assessment results, the career counselor adjusted her job search plan and began a targeted search for job openings. Kateryna received guidance, assistance in adapting her resume to meet civil service requirements, and advice on navigating the selection process for these positions.

After several interviews at various institutions, she received a job offer and became a lead specialist at one of Uman’s government agencies.

Today, Kateryna works confidently in the civil service of the Uman territorial community. She has not only found a job that matches her professional experience and interests but has also gained a new perspective on her own competencies and the ways she can apply them.

This case study demonstrates how personalized assessment of professional needs, combined with individualized support from employment service specialists, can help a woman define her career path, search for a job with greater confidence, and find her place in the new labor market.
