WHY YOU MAY NOT GET A RESPONSE TO YOUR RESUME

“I often hear from clients, acquaintances, and friends that they have sent a resume for a job that seems to be perfect for them, they meet all the requirements, but for some reason the phone is silent. No one calls or emails…

For many people, this silence and lack of response is very unpleasant, if not offensive. And for some people, it can demotivate their job search altogether. So let’s look at the reasons why you haven’t received a response and whether you should be upset.

1. Your resume was lost.

It may seem like a trivial reason, but it is true that a certain percentage of resumes get lost in the recruiter’s mail if the job is super popular and there are a lot of resumes, or in the reviews on the job search site (the recruiter may not have seen all the reviews). Sometimes, due to the settings, it can simply end up in spam.

What should you do about it? I advise you to resend your resume for the desired position,

or call back and ask if they received your resume.

2. You have not said everything.

Perhaps you already have the necessary knowledge and skills, but for some reason you decided to hide it :).

You described yourself in your resume rather modestly and the recruiter decided that you are not suitable for the vacancy. What seems obvious to you in the text of your resume may not be understood by another person. For example, you are a designer and you know how to work in Photoshop, but for some reason you didn’t mention it. You thought it was obvious that a designer should have such skills.

And for this particular job, the requirement to work with Photoshop is critical.

3. Insufficient competence of the recruiter.

The recruiter performs the function of a corporate “cupid’s bow” who has to find a perfect match – a vacancy and a candidate – and bring them together.

But sometimes the recruiter’s arrows miss the mark: perhaps he or she didn’t understand the vacancy or didn’t recognize a qualified specialist. Just like in life, this sometimes happens.

4. Limited budget of the organization.

I’ll tell you from my experience: every organization has an approximate budget for an advertised vacancy (this information is often internal). And it happened that I received a resume of an ideal candidate for an advertised vacancy, with whom it seemed we could “live happily ever after”.

But this ideal candidate had expectations of paying one and a half times the organization’s budget, and the organization simply could not afford such an expensive specialist. Therefore, this candidate was not suitable for the position, no matter how great his resume was.

5. The vacancy is no longer relevant.

Sometimes the organization’s priorities change, projects emerge or are closed, so vacancies can both suddenly appear and suddenly disappear.

Sometimes there was a hot vacancy for which I was frantically looking for a candidate, and after a couple of days it cooled down, sometimes it became completely cold and irrelevant.

For example, the search for a candidate was postponed for a couple of months or the vacancy was closed altogether. But all this time, the vacancy was hanging on open resources and people were sending resumes to it, and unfortunately, the HR manager does not always have the opportunity and time to contact each candidate and inform him or her.
