Support for community and youth initiatives to prevent domestic and gender-based violence

As part of the project, the NGO “Association of Women Abmassadors of Ukraine” coordinated the implementation of community and youth initiatives aimed at preventing domestic and gender-based violence, providing organizational, methodological, and financial support to local teams. The organization coordinated project implementation, provided expert support, ensured compliance with UNFPA methodology, and guided communities through all stages of planning, implementation, and reporting.

As part of the project, 16 community initiatives were implemented in 12 communities across Ukraine (Rivne, Voznesensk, Pavlohrad, Irpin, Kamianets-Podilskyi, Shostka, Drohobych, Uman, Avangard, Sheptytskyi, Izmail, and Rokytne). All initiatives were implemented in accordance with UNFPA’s methodological guidelines on the gradual change of social norms and were aimed at developing non-violent behavior patterns, raising public awareness, and engaging communities in the prevention of domestic and gender-based violence.

As a result of the project, 15,693 people participated in educational events, information campaigns reached over 688,000 people, and more than 133,000 informational materials were distributed in the communities. Local authorities, educational institutions, civil society organizations, community leaders, and other local partners were involved in implementing the initiatives, which helped strengthen cross-sectoral collaboration and ensure the sustainability of the results.

A separate component of the project was support for three youth initiatives implemented in Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, and Zakarpattia Oblast. Youth teams independently developed and implemented educational campaigns, interactive events, and informational products aimed at fostering a culture of nonviolent communication, gender equality, and mutual respect. The youth initiatives reached 3,290 participants, and their awareness campaigns reached over 37,000 people, confirming the effectiveness of an approach in which young people serve as active agents of positive change in their communities.
